Methodology: Tracing the Language Learning Trail

In order to determine the UK cities that exhibit the highest levels of interest in learning a new language, we employed a rigorous and transparent methodology. Our approach not only ensures the reliability of our findings but also provides valuable insights into the language learning landscape across the nation. Here’s an overview of our methodology:

  • 1. Keyword Gathering: We began by utilizing Google Keyword Planner to gather an extensive list of keywords related to language learning. These keywords included phrases such as “easiest language to learn,” “hardest languages to learn,” “Spanish classes near me,” “learn Korean,” “online Arabic lessons,” “Spanish classes,” and “language learning apps.” By capturing a wide range of language learning queries, we established a comprehensive foundation for our analysis.
  • 2. Filtering and Refinement: To ensure the relevance and accuracy of our findings, we carefully filtered the collected keywords based on their intent and alignment with our topic. We focused on keywords directly related to language learning and excluded any unrelated or peripheral terms. This meticulous refinement process guaranteed that our analysis centered specifically on the language learning interests of the UK population.
  • 3. Point Scoring System: To rank the UK cities based on their interest in learning a new language, we implemented a point scoring system. This system considered two key factors: search volume and growth rate of the keywords. We assigned point values to different ranges of search volume, with higher volumes receiving more points. Additionally, we rewarded cities with higher growth rates of language learning keywords over the past 3 months. The scoring system is as follows –

We assigned points to each keyword based on its search volume, ranging from 1 point for search volumes between 0-10, up to 7 points for search volumes exceeding 1 million.

  • Keyword Search Volume:
  • 0 – 10: 1 point
  • 10 – 100: 2 points
  • 100 – 1K: 3 points
  • 1K – 10K: 4 points
  • 10K – 100K: 5 points
  • 100K – 1M: 6 points
  • 1M+: 7 points

Growth in Search Volume Points: We also assigned points based on the percentage growth in search volume over the past 3 months, ranging from 1 point for growth between 0%-100%, up to 8 points for growth exceeding 100,001%.

  • 0% – 100%: 1 point
  • 101% – 500%: 2 points
  • 501% – 1,000%: 3 points
  • 1,001% – 5,000%: 4 points
  • 5,001% – 10,000%: 5 points
  • 10,001% – 50,000%: 6 points
  • 50,001% – 100,000%: 7 points
  • 100,001% and above 8 points
  • 4. Data Analysis and Ranking: Using the refined keywords and the point scoring system, we analyzed the language learning landscape across various UK cities. We assigned points to each city based on the keywords associated with them, considering both search volume and growth rate. By aggregating the points, we derived a final ranking of UK cities showcasing the highest levels of interest in learning a new language.

By employing this comprehensive methodology, we have ensured the credibility and integrity of our findings. The combination of keyword analysis, filtering, and scoring provides a robust framework for understanding the language learning preferences and enthusiasm displayed by UK cities.
